May 15th Tourism opens officially in Greece

The Greek Tourism minister Haris Theoharis has made it offical. Tourism is opening 0n Saturday May 15th 2021.

Apart from our borders opening officially, we as Greeks will be able to travel around  the country too. After six months of a non essential travel ban.

Unfortunately the British Prime Minister did not make such a positive announcement, although people can now start travelling it is to a limited number of places. Greece for now is on the Amber list, not the Green as was hoped.

Having said this the season is starting. Hotels are getting ready to receive their first guests and the Zakynthos International airport ” Dionysios Solomos” has announced its first arrivals. It appears that our friends from Poland will be the first visitors to the island. Everyone is holding their breath that all goes well and there will be no changes before their arrival this weekend.

TUI have also said they are flying to the island from Monday 17th May. With flights from Birmingham, Bristol and Gatwick due to arrive in the first week.

The weather is certainly looking good and the forcast is even better, blue skies, sunshine and high temperature await those who make it to our island.

So whats in store for you when you arrive?

Although there are not many restaurants open on the island at the moment, most are waiting with baited breath, eager to open and hopeful for the great summer season. The beaches are being prepared with sunbeds and umbrellas finding their way back down to the seashore. Bars have polished their glasses and filled the fridges with refreshing beers and juices. And the barmen are practicing their cocktail making skills again.

The crystal clear waters of the Ionian are calling all who wish to swim and snorkel. Boats are getting ready to explore the magical Blue Caves and the Famous Shipwreck beach. Cameo is putting her best foot forward to greeet you over the bridge and even the turtles have been seen in the bay waiting to suprise you with their size and amazing swimming skills.

Or why not take a car and explore the quieter parts of the island. The traditional mountain villages, old olive trees, oil factories and wineries.

Whatever you want. From this weekend you will be able to find it on our beautiful island.
