So its Sunday today. That means its time for fun and exploring. The sun is shining the sky is blue, the sea is warm so what shall we do!

We jump in the Jeep , with the wind in our hair we drive along some of the narrow roads in Zakynthos until we find a beach we like.

Today we are taking a scenic route along the coast. Past the tourist resorts and on we go. We discover a lovely little cove, called Xigia. This amazing beach has a strange smell! That is because of the large amounts of sulphur. The sulphur comes from the caves around the beach and has fantastic healing powers. It is a great choice for anyone with joint pains or arthritis. It is supposed to be good for cellulite too.

Xigia is definitely unique in Zakynthos.

There is plenty of parking above the beach. On the beach are many umbrellas and sun loungers. The canteen above also has a great way of serving you ! You don’t need to walk to them they send the order down on a pully mechanism.

After a swim we pop back in the jeep and keep going along the coastal road. Just around the next corner we are met by the amazing view of Makris Gialos beach. With little caves to swim into and explore this pebbly beach is fantastic. Crystal clear water so refreshing and great for snorkelling. We can get some light refreshments here too just up from the beach looking out over the Ionian waters.

These two beaches have got us really excited to see what else we can find on this road and we aren’t diappointed. Less than a minute away we come to the amazing Mikro Nisi – ‘little island’. Swimming from the rocks here is an unforgettable experience.

We jump back in the car. How much more can we see. so we keep going along this road till we get to a port. This we are told is Agios Nicholas where you can catch a ferry to Kefalonia. Maybe we can do that another day. A single road with plenty of tavernas and cafes. Boats that go to the blue caves and a lovely little beach for a swim are what we find here. Wow how amazing is this island.

Leaving the port behind we drive up and along the coast till we get to the further point north. Korithi and the quaint little windmills. These have been turned into studios to rent . What a view that would be to wake up to. There are 100 steps down from here to the edge of the blue caves and the clear blue sea. The cafe a the top is great for a cooling drink after climbing back up those steps!

Thats enough for today I think. Some amazing beaches on the coast of Zakynthos. So back in the jeep and home for a quiet night of greek food and hospitality.
